Every registered domain name has no less than 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a specific hosting provider. This way, you have both your site and your emails managed by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, like A and MX. The former reveals which server handles the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, when you type a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of a different service provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means that you can have your site and your emails with 2 different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you want to switch either your website or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it'll take you literally simply 2 mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it will not take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or create will not take more than several hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will remain active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated hosting plans we provide, you are going to have total control over the records of all domains and subdomains which you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each of them has from the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and changing any record requires as little as a couple of clicks. If you choose to switch your web or email hosting provider, you can update the necessary record and point your domain address to the other service provider for one of the services, as you still carry on using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain name here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you're editing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default two we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
