There are lots of ways to direct a domain address to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. In case you own a domain name and you have created a website using some on-line service which provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve with this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party provider. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and functioning e-mail address with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and in some cases additional configuration may be required with the other company.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Creating a CNAME record using our cloud hosting plans is very easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in a couple of simple steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with various opportunities - if you set up a company website on our end, as an illustration, the staff can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to create a website using a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your visitors are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it takes just a few clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled using our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel in which you will discover a section committed to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside the account. To create a CNAME record, you'll only have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), input where the latter is going to be directed to and save the change. The new record will be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record in the account is equally easy and takes a click. If you experience any problems, you can go through our detailed help article, watch the short video on the subject that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can just contact us for assistance.
